Italy bans cultivated meat, restricts plant-based labels

After months of will-they-won't-they, the Italian Chamber of Deputies voted to ban cultivated meat.

The Italian Chamber of Deputies on Thursday passed a law banning the production and marketing of cultivated meat and the use of meat-related terms on plant-based alt-meat product packaging.

The cultivated meat ban would prevent the production and sale of food or feed "from cell cultures or tissues derived from vertebrate animals."
